Vedic Astrology

The original Sanskrit term for Vedic Astrology is ''Jyotish'' or ''Jyotisha'' which means ''the science of heavenly bodies, although sometimes it is also interpreted differently as ''the science of light''. Hence we can say our approach towards Vedic Astrology is more scientific than religious. It describes the planetary patterns at the time of our birth and gives us a valuable understanding of our journey throughout life. Jyotish will help us to realistically evaluate our strengths and challenges in order to optimize our full potential. By forecasting the changing trends and periods of our lives, it can also enable us to make more evolutionary choices. Jyotish offers us practical remedial measures to alleviate ares of difficulty, giving us the confidence to manifest our true destiny and create success, happiness and harmony on all levels.

Difference between Jyotish and Western Astrology

Jyotish is distinctly different from what we think of as astrology in the West. The difference lies in the fact that in Jyotish we use the sidereal zodiac, which is based on the fixed, observable positions of the constellations (nakshatras), as we see them in the sky. Western astrology, in contrast, uses what is called the tropical zodiac. The tropical zodiac is based, not on the fixed/observable positions of the constellations, but rather on the relative and changeable position of the sun.

In Jyotish, we do not think of people in terms of their sun signs as we do in western astrology. Instead, we enter the chart through what we call ''the ascendant'' or ''lagna'', the constellation that is rising on the Eastern horizon at the time of a person's birth. Together with the date of birth and place of birth this sets up the relationship between the planets and gives clues about an individual's personality, physical body and the way the person present him/herself to the world.

The Horoscope

The horoscope, also known as janam kundali is your birth chart. This chart is prepared by using the following details:

  • date of birth
  • time of birth
  • place of birth

The time and place of birth play an important role in determining the exact position of the planets, stars and celestial bodies to predict the behavior of an individual and his future. The chart helps in understanding the character of a person and in understanding the physical and psychological traits to get an insight of his nature and predict the fortune of that individual. It throws light on your intuitive and emotional nature and provides a complete reading about the character and hidden side which is not known to many. Some of the subjects that are being highlighted through the natal birth chart are:

  • personality
  • study
  • relationship & marriage
  • work, career and business
  • children
  • spirituality
  • and more

This information is provided to us by studying the janam kundali. Besides the natal birth chart we work with several more cycles or charts for deeper insight in a specific situation or question when needed. For example: you want to know how you can get more out of your life because you have the feeling you have so much more to offer to the world; or you feel that you have to change your life drastically in order to beget inner happiness, but you do not know how and where to begin. That is where we can help you and give you an insight on how to approach this task by reading your horoscope and corresponding cycles.

The janam kundali itself looks like a wheel, which is divided into 12 parts of 30 degrees each. These parts have several planets, signs and numbers drawn in them. These symbols and diagrams represent various sensitive angels, positions and astrological aspects of planets and various other heavenly bodies that assist in predicting. Planets in Vedic Astrology stands for a heavenly body in consideration. Not all of them are real planets. The Sun and Moon are taken as planets and not as a star or sattelite respectively.

Studying the janam kundali thoroughly is indeed a subject in it's own right. The outcome of the acquired information through this ancient science stays astonishing. Basically, this journey will provide you a deep understanding and insight of: how you really are as a person, how you see yourself, and how your society looks at you. With this valuable insight you will be able to live up to your full potential, succeed and live life on your terms!
